Sleep Apnea Can Kill

Have you ever felt the need to pull off the road to take a short sleep in the middle of the day? If your sleep apnea is severe, you can actually kill other people because of it. Imagine driving while over-tired. Sleep apnea is a dangerous threat to yourself and other people.

The biggest warning sign of sleep apnea is snoring. The same sleep conditions that result in snoring result in sleep apnea. The muscles in the air passages relax, causing the soft palate at the base of the tongue to obstruct the airway. This obstruction results in an interruption in breathing while a person sleeps. These interruptions in breathing, or apneas, can last from five seconds to a minute. When breathing restarts, the result is a snore. Frighteningly, a sufferer of sleep apnea may actually stop breathing anywhere from five to one hundred times whilst asleep. It is no wonder why sufferers of sleep apnea are tired.
